An Eye in the Sky: Mig-25R


The most impressive military aircraft to emerge from the Wsovient Union in 1967, the Mig-25R was inducted in the Indian Air Force on 17 Aug 1981 and retired from service on 01 May 2006. It is powered by two tumansky turbojet engines developing 11200 kgs of thrust each that propel its 39.6 tonnes of weight in the air. It has a maximum speed of 3,390 kmph which is over three times the speed of sound.

It can fly at altitudes of over 100,000 ft and holds the world altitude record of 1,23,524 feet.

The aircraft displays handling characteristics of an aeroplane at lower altitudes and a spacecraft at higher altitudes.

Kp351n here has served the nation with distinction and saw action in the kargil and Parakram Ops. It now occupies pride of place and maintains a watchful eye over Gole Maret.
