Pakistan maritme security agengy arrested 58 Indian
fishermen on 11 Dec for allegedly violating the country’s
territorial waters.
"We arrested 58 Indian fisherman early Thursday
morning after they violated our territorial limits, fishing illegally into
Pakistani waters," MSA commander Mohammad Farooq told AFP.
“They violated the territorial waters in the
Arabian Sea despite several warnings by our patrol boats,” Ahmed Reza,
an official with the agency, said.
“The fishermen will now be presented before a
magistrate and can be sent to judicial custody,” a police official said.
According to Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) — a
representative body of fishermen — at least 423 Indian fishermen are in
Pakistani jails and nearly 400 Pakistani fishermen are in Indian jails for many
years.
