India plans to have five more SSBNs over the next seven years

INS Arihant  is the lead ship of India classified as a Ship Submersible Ballistic Nuclear (SSBN). The 6,000 tonne vessel was built under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam.

The symbolic launch ceremony for the Arihant was held on 25 July 2009, the anniversary of Vijay Diwas (Kargil War Victory Day) and now INS Arihant will be ready  for sea trials by next week off the eastern coast in Vishakhapatnam.

The completion of INS Arihant made India one of six countries in the world with the ability to design, build, and operate its own nuclear submarines after the US, UK, France, Russia and China.

India plans to have five such home-built SSBNs over the next seven years.

The INS Chakra was leased from the Russians by Indian Navy to train its personnel before the INS Arihant is inducted into the force. And now after the completion of INS Arihant, Indian Navy will be having its own submarine.
