Barracuda- India's first warship

India built its first warship Barracuda, a 75 ft by 15 ft vessel which can house 20- odd sailors. It is designed and built by the Kolkata based Garden Reach Shipbuilders. Mauritius is buying this Coast Guard ship for Rs. 350 crore. According to reports, two more ships are also under construction at the Goa Shipyard and will be sold to Sri lanka.

A.K.Verma , Chairman and Managing Director, GRSE said: “Our first export order, a warship, will be delivered to Mauritius by December this year. We are also looking to tap the export segment in the coming days. Preliminary discussions have begun with some countries.”

Now the warships will be manufactured in Indian shipyards. India no longer need to buy it from foreign manufacturers. Ministry of India cancelled to buy submarines recently and asked Navy to build it in India.
